Abstract
Objectives: This study investigates the association between parental drinking levels, awareness, and juvenile delinquency using 13th wave of the Korean Welfare Panel Data.

Methods: Participants in this study were 371 adolescent children, attending middle-school. Data were collected and analyzed by descriptive statistics and logistic regression using SPSS 21.0.

Results: The variables of harmful parental drinking behaviors, hazardous parental drinking and alcohol-dependent mother were statistically and significantly associated with juvenile delinquency. Students who had an alcohol-dependent mother were 4.92 times as likely to behave delinquently compared to as students who had mother. Interactions of harmful drinking behaviors between father and mother was the main variable associated with juvenile delinquency.

Conclusion: Our results support the need for a broader understanding of the effects of parental drinking behaviors on adolescent children. We suggest the development and implementation of programs of prevention for the harmful use of alcohol, targeting parents who serve as role models to their early adolescent children.
